County Commission to decide Tuesday "I just think (the mandate) is the right thing to do," Earman said. Extending the mandate longer will end having to revisit the issue every two months, and if COVID-19 cases decrease, the commission can revisit the issue in four months, Commissioner Joe Earman said. The Board will conduct a nationwide search.The mandate still is needed, commissioners said. Mike Zito, Deputy County Administrator, will serve as Interim County Administrator, effective immediately, until the Administrator position is filled. The new Board immediately deliberated then voted to appoint an interim County Administrator to temporarily fill the position being vacated by Jason Brown who has accepted a position in the office of the Clerk of the Court. Commissioner Loar, former Indian River County Sheriff, is filling the seat held by Commissioner Peter O’Bryan for 16 years. Commissioner Flescher was recently re-elected to his 5th term. Joseph Flescher (District 2) and Deryl Loar (District 4) were sworn at this morning’s meeting. “I am proud to add to our family’s legacy through hard work and commitment to excellence at every level.” “I am honored to serve and appreciate the vote of confidence by my fellow commissioners,” said Adams. Born and raised in Fellsmere, Adams is the second person in her family to serve on the commission. Vice-Chair Susan Adams also has a history of family ties to Indian River County. Earman is in his first term as County Commissioner. The Earman family has called Indian River County home for almost 100 years. “I embrace the opportunity to lead the county I call home and promise to serve diligently to protect our environmental resources and provide essential services for our residents,” said Chair Earman. Joseph Earman (District 3), a lifelong resident of Indian River County will serve as chair, while Susan Adams (District 1), of Fellsmere will assume the leadership role of vice chair. The Board of County Commissioners elected a new chair and vice chair at today’s meeting.
